The University of Arkansas offers two paths to elementary teacher licensure in kindergarten through sixth grade (K-6). The Bachelor of Science in Education in Elementary Education is one path. Candidates apply during their sophomore year. Education pedagogy courses are taken through their remaining undergraduate years. Candidates complete their public school internship senior year.

The U of A also offers a combined degree, a B.S.E. in Childhood Education with Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education. The combined degree leads to initial teacher licensure in elementary education that is pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. A student who obtains a U of A B.S.E. in Childhood Education will have completed the course prerequisites for the M.A.T. program.

2+2 Transfer Program

The teachers' degree programs offer Arkansas community college students the opportunity to complete bachelor's and graduate degrees through a 2+2 transfer plan. People who complete their 2-year Associate of Arts in Teaching can transfer to the University of Arkansas and earn their (1) B.S.E. and K-6 teacher’s license in two years or (2) in three years their B.S.E., M.A.T.  K-6 teacher’s license and area endorsement (Gifted and Talented, STEM, Reading or ESL).

Requirements

• At least 3.0 grade-point average on AAT coursework
• A clear background check
• Completed U of A CIED application
• ACT or PRAXIS passing scores in Reading, Writing and Math
